SUSAN LARSON ART

About the Artist

Susan Larson is an award-winning Colorado artist who captures the visual qualities of a subject in vibrant color in her work. She paints animals, birds, landscapes, aspen, horses, flowers, and people. Her subjects are created from her own award-winning photography. She creates images in a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylics, gouache, soft pastels, oil pastels, and mixed media on paper, board, and sanded surfaces. Susan won awards for pencil and pen & ink drawings, and now "draws" with a brush or pastels in bright colors.

Artist's Statement:

"I have been drawing since I was five years old. I started out with a Fine Art major in college, but graduated with a different major. Steve Naegle (AWS) taught me the basic techniques of watercolor painting. I have taken a variety of art classes over the years, with everything else being self taught. My artistic gift is part of who I am as a human being and pervades my life whatever I am doing. Everything I see is with an artist's eye, and life can be complex and rich to enjoy. I will continue to experiment in my work to keep it interesting.

My paintings have been selected for juried national, state, regional, and local shows by Women Artists of the West, the Colorado Watercolor Society, the Wyoming Watercolor Society, the Colorado Springs Art Guild, the Curtis Arts & Humanities Center in Greenwood Village, the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, and the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake.

My work has shown in the following locations:

In the Denver area at the Colorado History Museum, the Botanic Gardens, the Curtis Center, and the Co-Art Gallery in the Santa Fe Arts District; in the Colorado Springs area at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts, the Pikes Peak Center, the Colorado Springs Airport, the Business of Art Center, and the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts; in Evergreen at the Evergreen Arts Center; in Estes Park at the Cultural Arts Center Fine Art Gallery; in Greeley at the Michener Library at the University of Northern Colorado; in Sheridan, Wyoming, at the Davis Gallery and SAGE Gallery; and in San Diego, California, at the Olaf Wieghorst Museum in El Cajon, California.
