Susan Larson is an award-winning Colorado artist who captures the visual qualities of a subject in vibrant color in her watercolors. She paints landscapes, aspen, birds, animals, horses, flowers, and people. Her subjects are created from her own award-winning photography. Susan paints with watercolor and gouache, mixing pastels and ink into her paintings for variety. Her light effects are created by allowing the white of the watercolor paper to show through her images. She won awards for pencil and pen & ink drawings, and now "draws" with a brush in bright colors.
What attracts Susan to a subject is the display of light.
Susan's work has been selected for juried national, state, regional, and local shows by Women Artists of the West, Colorado Watercolor Society, Wyoming Watercolor Society, Colorado Springs Art Guild, Curtis Arts & Humanities Center in Greenwood Village, Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, and Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake. Her paintings have shown in Denver at the Colorado History Museum, Botanic Gardens, Curtis Center, and Co-Art Gallery in the Santa Fe Arts District; in Colorado Springs at the Pikes Peak Center, Colorado Springs Airport, and Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts. Susan's watercolors have shown in Evergreen at the Evergreen Arts Center; in Estes Park at the Cultural Arts Center Fine Art Gallery; in Sheridan, Wyoming, at the Davis and SAGE Galleries; and in San Diego at the Olaf Wieghorst Museum in El Cajon, California.
Susan is passionate about nature-oriented subjects, and the birds and animals fast disappearing on our planet.
